Hexies sent and received

Hi everyone,

First of all apologies I haven't posted in a while. I just realised my last post seem to have been in March. But I have been hexiing and receiving hexies since. Tonight I am preparing my enveloppe for Leslie with my June hexies.

Before I sent May hexies to Krystyna

and April hexies to Karily
And I received some lovely stepping stones from Lynette and Lori. I can't seem to locate my hexies from Maggie at the moment but I think I received them too. Belated thanks ladies.

Thank you Janet and Jennifer

Thank you Janet for these two wonderful hexies.  I just love those shades of blue and green!  There is a little shady spot in my garden just like the card (though not as glamorous), with an oak tree and wooden bench and when the sun shines (this is England!) it is lovely to sit and sew.

Thank you Jennifer for these beautiful hexies.  The pale blue reminds me of the hydrangeas in Saville Gardens which I was lucky enough to visit last July.

And these are on the way (slightly belatedly) to their hew home.

Happy days!

Swapper profile - Pat!!

I think we will plunge right in tonight and let Pat tell you about herself.

"I live in Northampton, which is right in the centre of England.  I was born here, grew up here and I am still here!  It has a lot of history - my local church was built in the 11th century.  Northampton was well known for producing beautiful leather and hand made shoes - alas this industry is virtually non-existent now.

I have been married to Michael for 48 years so hopefully we shall reach our Golden Wedding and I shall need to make a special quilt to mark that occasion.  We had 2 children but sadly our son, who was our youngest, died 6 years ago. He had no children but was engaged to be married.  We also have a daughter, Sarah, who has just turned 47 and she is married and has given us 2 grandchildren, Erin is 12 and Cameron is 10.  I did hope that maybe Erin would learn to quilt but no inclination yet - she would have to sit still to do it and that is not for her!  Cameron is just interested in football.

Cameron with his Christmas quilt

We are both retired - Michael was a chef (and yes, he does still love to cook at home, aren't I the lucky one) and I used to work as a book-keeper cum secretary.  These days I love to stitch.  I both hand and machine sew, but much prefer hand sewing.  I love applique, and also enjoy foundation piecing as it is so accurate.

I have been quilting for over 30 years on and off - more on now that I am retired.  I also enjoy knitting, crochet and reading although the reading is limited at the moment as I have a cataract on one eye and hopefully this will soon be sorted so that I can tackle the stack of books I have waiting for me.  I love quilting mystery novels and also Jennifer Chiaverini's books about the Elm Creek Quilters.

I belong to several quilting groups, some large and some small.  I prefer the smaller groups, they are so friendly as are all you lovely ladies on this swap group.  I also belong to a couple of other swap groups on the internet and have just finished a blue and cream 9 patch swap which was fun and I hope that I shall have a really nice quilt when I have the last couple of blocks which are due."

Pat, it is lovely to get to know you a bit.  Persevere with your granddaughter and she will probably decide to try quilting at some point - even if it's not until she is in her teens or older.  :)

Everyone, please stop in and say hello to Pat.

Thanks Pat & Christine

When I arrived back in El Paso after our travels, I found beautiful flowers waiting for me.

These beauties are from Pat who lives in England and was my partner for May. I love the colors she chose but that fabric with the grapes is "to die for" in real life. Thanks so much, Pat.

Then I had these two flowers in beautiful aqua and pink. The fabric my November 2013 partner Christine chose as the center are perfect for each. Thanks, Christine, they are lovely.

I've also been doing my share of sewing and have these flowers sewn for my June partner in the "Inchy-Hexagon Flower Swap." She requested flowers in pink, red, and/or cream. I hope she'll think these are perfect for her.

Swapper Profile - Debbie!

Here is an introduction to our other new swapper - Debbie.  Debbie lives in Jerusalem.  How exciting to have another swapper from an interesting part of the world.  I bet you all know a little something about Jerusalem but here is the link to Wikipedia's info about the city, in case you want to find out more...  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerusalem

And now here is Debbie....

"I'm thrilled to be part of the Hexagon Flower Swap. I have been a
hexagon junkie for a long time. I collect many hexagon shaped things,
not just in fabric. Beads, buttons, trinket boxes, photos of, etc.

I live in Israel and am married with five children and six
grandchildren, all living here in Israel.

I learned to knit and crochet from my grandmothers at about age seven.
Then went on to different kinds of embroideries with my mother's
encouragement. Before I was eleven, my mother sent me for my first
sewing lessons. Around 20 years ago I started quilting. While I've
made quite a few projects with hexagons, none of them are of the GFG
type. Over five years ago I started blogging. If you put hexagon in
the search, you can see most of my hexagon projects.
http://debbiesfiberwork.blogspot.com"

Debbie didn't send me any photos but you can see some on her blog if you check it out.  She is a knitter as well as a quilter!

So nice to get to know a little bit about you Debbie and welcome to the swap!!  Hopefully some of our other members will stop by and say hi.

My lovely flowers from Rosalie

These were in my letter box today. I love them. Rosalie also sent the sweetest scissor keep, it is already on my favourite scissors, it's so pretty and just the colours I love. Thank you again Rosalie.

Flowers for Alana in Australia

Alana asked for:

"All fabric the same. In colours of blue or sea-green.
They can be solids or tone on tone or small prints.
The overall desired look is to make a quilt in the colours
of the ocean."

So here is what I made for her ~

I think they should be named Ocean Bubbles and Algae from the Deep!!  What do you think??

I hope you like them, Alana and that they fit into your Ocean Garden!!

Swapper profile - Melody

Today we are meeting Melody, one of our new swappers.... well she is actually a returning swapper... I'll let her tell the story...

"My name is Melody and I live in Melbourne Australia.  I’m married with two adult sons and two grandsons, all of whom I love dearly.  I’ve been sewing for many years but only in the last couple of years have I had a lot of time to devote to my hobbies.  I particularly enjoy hand sewing.

I was a member of this group in its early days and then lost my hexie mojo so took a break for a couple of years but now I’m totally in love with hexies again and so happy to be back.

I define myself on my little introduction card as  stitcher, blogger, granny and animal lover.  I can add in enthusiastic gardener to this list.  I also love to read.

I’ve been blogging for about three years now and make a big effort to blog everyday.  I always include a link to a fabulous free pattern.  Please pop over and visit me at thehouseonthesideofthehill.blogspot.com

I look forward to making some hexies for you."

Here is a photo of a happy Melody.  I think maybe she is almost always smiling :)

It is wonderful to have you back in the group Melody!  I hope everyone will come by and say hello.

Swapper Profile - Sarah

I`m late, I`m late, For a very important date....  The swapper profile this week is for Sarah Meland, who ....

``is a native Minnesotan who transplanted herself to sunny, warm Arizona 20 years ago.  She currently lives in Mesa with her beagle, Little Ruthann and a cranky 18 year old cat named Frank Borman.``

I guess Frank was too cranky to get his photo taken....

``At 5 years old, Sarah first learned to sew.  Her first project was a purple and white paisley halter top made with the help of her mom.  She was wearing it proudly one day at her grandpa's farm playing with the farmhand's pet raccoon when the raccoon pooped all over the halter top.  She refused to ever wear it again.  But she overcame this early "tragedy" in her sewing life.  LOL``

Sarah`s hourglass quilt

``25 years and a few odd sewing projects later, Sarah took up quilting.  An obsession was born.  Now, two of the three bedrooms in her house are turned over to her art.  She enjoys machine piecing, paper piecing, and needle-turn applique.  Sarah blogs at www.thriftstorecrafter.com, though infrequently lately due to work obligations.``

 Sarah`s star quilt

``Sarah thanks everyone in the Inchy Hexagon Flower Swap for their beautiful handwork and generosity in sharing.``

Thank you Sarah, for sharing with us.  It is lovely to get to know more about you.  And your star quilt is absolutely gorgeous!

I hope everyone will stop in and say hello to Sarah...

Susan, your May sunflower hexies have arrived and are fantastic.
I will enjoy a cup of chamomile tea whilst making my June hexies.

Here's a picture for everyone to see...

Happy stitching
Simone

An Apology

I have to apologise to Irene Vigil for the delay in sending your May hexies.  They had been made for ages but somehow got put in the box with the flower garden hexies that I have been adding the path to instead of being put into an envelope and in the post.
They were posted today so hopefully will be with you shortly.

June list is sent

Hi all,

I have just sent out the June list.  Please let me know if you think you should have received it but didn't, or if there are any concerns with the assignments.

We have two new swappers this month - Melody from Australia is returning to the swap after more than a year away and Debbie from Israel is joining in.... I really must get that map going...

Please welcome them both.

Janet
